Spinning Process

  • Printer-friendly version

The spinning is done manually using spinning wheel. The bundle of yarn is placed on the spinning wheel to wind the yarn from bundles to bamboo spools. This process is done to remove entangles in the yarn which helps for smooth horizontal weaving. Cotton yarn which is reeled around bamboo spool is again reed onto spindles. The reeled spindles are further inserted into the fly-shuttle to process the weft.In Kanchipuram, spinning process is done by women in their leisure time.
