Mental illness, especially in India comes with its own terrible stigma attached. Not only do the persons suffering have to take care of themselves but also care about how the society looks at them because of it. The leading cause of people with mental illnesses going undiagnosed and untreated is the fact that the stigma is too much to bear.
Some of the mental illnesses people suffer from are misunderstood or go unnoticed because of the subtle symptoms. Such disorders include anxiety and mood disorders. Even though these disorders are the most common ones in the world, the symptoms are often too un-dramatic for people other than the victim to recognise. Even if the problem becomes apparent, ignorance or denial comes in the way of seeking help.
In this project, I would like to achieve most of the following goals: Creating empathy in people about mentally ill people and Creating awareness in the affected to let them know they are not alone.
The need of a support system for the mentally ill and opening up conversations about it.
Dispelling some of the myths associated with the illnesses (for society) works towards encouraging people to seek help and crush denial.
